2013 Swim Pool Training Plan

Monday Nights 9:00pm (November - July)

This is a 1 hour session with Ronan focusing on time and distance while holding technique. These sessions are for stronger swimmers with a good level of swim fitness.

Friday Nights 9:00pm (November - May)

This is a 1 hour session with Mark focusing on building technique and distance. These sessions are for newer swimmers who want to improve their confidence and technique.

Venue: The Mall Longford (€30 per 6 week block, Club members only)


2013 Swim Open Water Training Plan (Commencing 16th May 2013)

Thursday - 7:30pm is a Improved / beginner session rotating each week between Brannigan's Harbour Ballymahon and Dring shore Lough Gowna.

The Brannigan Harbour Ballymahon Thursday session's commencing 16th May will concentrate on

  • Building race distance.
  • Pack swimming and race starts.

The Dring shore Thursday session's commencing 23rd May will concentrate on

  • Race distance loops
  • Working on sighting,
  • Drafting and turns.


Saturday - 6pm in Lanesborough 

This is a improver / advanced session along with Lanesboro Tri club. This session will concentrate on

  • Race distance loops
  • Mass starts
  • Swimming with and against the river.

Meeting point is Mall car park 30 minutes before start time, (carpool)

The above open water work will includes race distances of 750m, 1500m and iron distance 3.9km. The preparation for swimming will also focus on

  • Coping with cold water ,numbness, disorientation
  • Wetsuits & swim gear
  • Sighting , turning, stroke efficiency & Open Water drills
