Longford Triathlon Club is committed to promoting sport in young people and welcomes all levels of junior triathletes from beginner to experienced. All children are encouraged to reach their individual potential and most of all have fun doing it! We strive to foster a culture of health, safety and wellbeing while taking part in the disciplines of swimming, cycling and running.
The minimum age for joining our Juniors is 10 years and we would like the young triathlete to be able to swim at least 2 lengths of a 25m pool.
The training for the Juniors includes one pool-based swimming session each week, over winter and spring. When the weather is appropriate, we also run open water swim training in various open water location within Longford. Both under the guidance of a trained instructor(s).
When the weather improves (usually after Easter) the Club organises cycling and run sessions at the weekend. For the cycling sessions, it is important that the kid’s bikes are in good working order with fully inflated tyres and two working brakes. Gears are useful but not essential – particularly for the younger members. All cyclists must wear a helmet – they will not be allowed to ride with the Club without one.
We all play a role!.
