Duathlon Series

 

This event offers participants a great opportunity to bring together the SWIM and RUN disciplines in one event and to practice the transition between each discipline in a friendly supported environment.

This event is part of the Midland Aquathon League which includines the following clubs

  • Longford Triathlon Club
  • Lanesboro Triathlon Club
  • Midland Triathlon Club
  • Athlone Triathlon Club
  • Lough Key Triathlon Club

Here are details about our event that we run as part of this series.

The following two options are available on the day

  • 250m Swim / 5km Run
  • 750m Swim / 5km Run

A Triathlon Ireland (TI) race license is required to take part and a valid TI membership card will need to be presented at registration. Alternatively a One Day Membership (ODM) may be purchased in advance via the TI website for a fee of €20.

Only one member of a relay team is required to have a TI or One Day License.

Your TI membership card must include a photo. One Day Membership (ODM) can be purchased from the TI websit

You will not race without presenting your TI card or ODM proof of purchase.

If you hold an International Racing License your license may be used at Triathlon Ireland sanctioning events, providing the organisation you are a valid member of is affiliated with the ITU. If you do not have your physical membership card at registration, along with a valid form of identification you will not be allowed to race as you will not be covered by insurance unless you purchase a ODM.

Refreshments are provided afterwards.

The race briefing takes place beside the transitions area approx 20mins before race start. Attendance is compulsory.

Longford Triathlon Club is committed to providing a drug-free environment at our race. As such, we support and follow the Irish Sports Council’s protocols on anti-doping. Anti-doping testing is part of the ISC’s National Anti-Doping Programme that acts to protect Ireland’s sporting integrity against the threat of doping.

SWIM: The 750m swim will start from the shore swimming out to Buoy #2 and then turning to swim towards Buoy #3 before returning to the finish area resulting in 750m.

The 250m swim will be an out and back to Buoy #1 resulting in a 250m distance.

RUN: Runners will leave the Transition area heading out the Harbour Road before turning right onto the Tarmonbarry Bridge. Crossing the Bridge, runners will then take the first road right to Cloondara, Continuing on this road heading into the village of Cloondara, runners will come to the bridge where they will be directed onto the Royal Canal Way. They will then continue on this till they reach the turnaround point and start heading back the way they came to the finish line. Marshals will be positioned along the route.
